"Ardsollus" translates into "highlight" in Gaelic.
During the 19th centaury the "Highlight" was
located at the south of the farm at a river that runs along one
boundary of the farm indicating the shallowest point of the river that
was safe for crossing of Horse-Drawn Coaches. The first Horse
Drawn Coaches that carried passengers crossed the River at this
point. At present there is a bridge that crosses the river at
the place where the "Highlight" was originally located.
Ardsollus Farmhouse first started to accommodate guests in 1980.
Before opening Ardsollus to Guests, Loreto Hannon had many years
experience in the hospitability business and is from a well
known family in Nenagh Co. Tipperary who ran a successful family
public house on Kenyan Street, this pub was known locally as
"The Widow Ryan's" as Loreto's mother was unfortunately made a
window at a young age.
Loreto is highly motivated and strives to give her guests the
best possible experience while staying in Ardsollus. Check out our
testimonials page to see what our guests have been saying
about Ardsollus Farnhouse.
